This is an interesting article about an idea I’d never have thought would be possible (desirable?). Running Python on embedded systems instead of a compiled language. It would be pretty handy, beings I know Python better, but are there any advantages to using it versus C/C++?
This quote in particular caught my eye:
“The Barr Group study shows that over 95% of the code for embedded systems is written in C/C++. This legacy on embedded systems might be hard for Python to overcome, but its attributes and the sheer number of people coding in Python might help it overtake C/C++ in the future.”
Is it really worth the savings of development time if you write code that needs the overhead of Python? Luckily, I’ve been meaning to explore this “embedded Python” for a while now, so let’s do it. Soon to come.
